Corrie's on Cake Wrecks!

This post is not wedding-related. At all. Get over it.

If you're not already a fan of Cake Wrecks, you're missing out on some of the best humor the interweb has to offer. Jen is an incredible writer, and oh-so-funny.

In honor of Super Bowl XLIII, Jen's "wreckporters" found a cornucopia of football-themed cakes. Curt's little sister Corrie submitted quite a gem, and it was deemed worthy of an appearance on the blog!

I'll let Corrie tell you the rest of the story...

Mason Jar Bride: So tell me, how did this all happen?

Corrie Mae: Well, since you opened my eyes to the glory that is Cake Wrecks last year, I have - geeky as it sounds - checked the site every day. Unfortunately, I never came across an awful enough cake that was worthy to send in. I think it has to do with Orange County and its dedication to pristine perfection; but whatever your explanation, the everyday cake at the local grocery store is just too darn pretty, for better or for worse. Luckily, when I was with my family visiting my big brother, Curt, at his home in LA, we all simultaneously had a hankerin' for some sweet treats.

MJB: So it was fate, then.

CM: Yes. Amid the piles of frosting and sugary goop encased in plastic, my hungry eyes landed upon a true Wreck. At last! My moment had come! There lay a "football" cake composed of cupcakes and...6 corners? How is this possible? I cannot tell you what the baker was thinking, but the amoeba-ball was just wacky enough to compel me to stop my search for a chocolate delight. And let me tell you, it takes A LOT to get me to stop that kind of search.

MJB: I can vouch for that.

CM: I grabbed Curt and he proceeded to take a picture of the CCC (cupcake cake for all you n00bs out there) on his phone.

I'm sure he'd like me to point out that, despite the photo being taken on a mobile phone, his picture still turned out looking clearer than all the other cakes on the site today. Good job, bro, we all know you have skillz. No need to flaunt 'em. Long story short, I e-mailed Jen my gem of a cake just in time for Super Bowl season, and whaddaya know! To my shrieking delight, the cake showed up today on her football themed post. Now I'm basically famous. The end.

MJB: Thanks, Corrie. And congratulations. This football CCC is sure to live on in wrecky infamy.

Please, people. The next time you have about 2 hours to spare, go to Cake Wrecks and read the entire blog. It will change your life. Maybe not. But consider it a two-hour workout, because you will be laughing so hard that your abs will be sore for days. I'm speaking from experience, here.

'bouts

Lately, I’ve really been loving the idea of non-floral boutonnieres. They’re so cool and quirky, and we can get them ahead of time and not stress about trying to make them on the morning of the wedding!

Here are some of my favorites…

LOVE this one from Twigs & Honey!

What do you think? Should we do something like this? Which one’s your favorite?

Why I love my man, reason #37,162

He is the ultimate internet curator.

Seriously, I don't know how he finds the things he finds. But he's always bringing really interesting stuff to my attention.

Here's a particular find that might be helpful for brides trying to compile a play list!

Check out www.tinymixtapes.com

The concept of the site is that you can request a mix tape based on a theme, a mood, a random phrase, etc. Looking through these compilations is a great way to discover songs that fit the style and mood of your wedding, and you might find something amazing that you didn't even know existed! Go ahead, come up with a theme and send them a request!

I browsed the list of recently requested mix tapes, and here are some of my favorite titles:

My Shower is in My Kitchen? Welcome to New York.

Songs from the Hypothetical Bruce Willis-John Cusack Buddy Cop Movie

I just met you last weekend, and I now want to spend the rest of my weekends with you, forever!

Songs to slow-dance to in an empty parking lot

Anybody have suggestions for good musical resources? We're still working on our list :)

Short Dresses... So Haute Right Now.

Y'all.

Maybe you think I've obsessed over my dress far too much.

You're probably right.

But... all I have to say is... I am SO SO SO happy that I went with my gut and got a short dress. I get incredibly giddy every time I think about it. And it's just going to fit our style and our venue so perfectly.

Check out all these short dresses. Drool-worthy, no?

Things I {heart} today...

I'll admit. I've been feeling pretty uninspired lately.

For a while there, everything was looking the same. Checking my ever-expanding blogroll was just getting a little... ho-hum. (Don't get me wrong, I love all of my fellow bloggers! You ladies rock!) But for quite I while, it just seemed like I had nothing important or interesting to talk about.

On top of that, we haven't had much wedding-related stuff to do. I feel like we've reached a stalemate, of sorts. As of now, it's just a waiting game...but before we know it, we'll be in over our heads in DIY projects.

So. The point.

I'm cured of my lethargy. For the past couple of days, the blogosphere has been bursting at the seams with sexiness. So there are a few things that I just have to share.

First. LOVING this wedding featured on Once Wed.

Dear magic wedding elves: Please make me and my fiance as cool as these people. I'd really appreciate it.

Chelsea of Oh, My Deer! vamped up some already-amazing shoes. Is it any surprise that I'm obsessed with these?

Super-sweet dresses from sarahseven's Etsy shop (via my fellow Wedding Chicks bridal blogger, Alison. love her!) Somebody pleeeeeze buy me one for my bridal shower, or rehearsal dinner, or any random day when I feel like dressing up. OK thanks.

That last one could be adorable for a laid-back bride planning a simple backyard wedding. sigh.

I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Thanks, internet!!

Location, Location, Location

Ever since we got engaged, I've been looking forward to doing our engagement shoot. I think engagement sessions are such a great way to capture some fun, relaxed portraits in a more casual setting. Curt definitely prefers to be behind the camera rather than in front of it (check out his flickr stream here!) but I think with a little coaxing he'll end up really getting into it. I, on the other hand, think it's so fun to play model for a day (as evidenced by Curt's flickr)... so I'm super stoked about the e-shoot.

One of the main reasons we booked Sarah was because of her amazing engagement sessions. They're always full of color and excitement, and she and her clients always pick fabulous locations!

We've been talking about the location dilemma for quite some time now. At first, we had planned on doing the shoot in downtown San Juan Capistrano... it's Curt's hometown, and we met while going to high school there, so it has a special place in our hearts...but it seemed like it was becoming a really popular spot for engagement sessions, and ultimately we decided that we wanted something with a little more of a wow factor. The next idea was the Viceroy in Santa Monica. The decor is SO our style, and we thought it would make a really cool backdrop for our pictures. But the more we looked into it, the more we realized it just wasn't quite right. We had plenty of time to decide, so we kind of put the search on hold for a while.

But a couple of days ago, Curt said, "What do you think about taking our engagement pictures at the Orange County Fair?"

I immediately had visions of us sharing cotton candy, kissing on the ferris wheel, and trying to win one of those impossible carnival games. All the bright lights and colors!! The cheesy stick-your-face-in-the-hole things!! The petting zoo!!!! (we are getting a picture with a llama. it's not up for negotiation.) I knew that this would be the perfect setting and that we'd end up with tons of fun, candid, and colorful pictures. "Perfect!" I said. "Let's do it!"

The only bummer is that the fair doesn't come to OC until late July, which means we won't be able to use the pictures for our save-the-dates. But there are still plenty of opportunities to incorporate them... the website, the guest book, thank-you cards....

I did a little research today, hoping to find some carnival-y inspiration. I love being able to search Google Reader. It's genius. Here are the fruits of my (2 seconds of) labor:
